RideSafe, a Kenyan Dapp, Set to Pitch at the Kigali African Startup Summit

 The Africa Tech Summit in Kigali, February 13-15, 2019

RideSafe, a Kenyan emergency response service that utilizes a micro-insurance financing model running on a decentralized blockchain application, has been selected among the ten companies from across the continent to pitch on stage to investors, corporates, media and other stakeholders at the Kigali Startup Summit on February 13 – 15, 2019.

RideSafe has previously received an undisclosed funding from Aeternity Ventures as part of Aeternity’s Starfleet incubator program in 2018.

Speaking about the list of 10 selected to pitch at the summit, Gabriella Mulligan, co-founder, Disrupt Africa, one of the partners at the summit, said:

“We were delighted by both the quality and quantity of applications to Pitch Live at the Africa Startup Summit, and picking the final 10 was not an easy job. However, we are confident the businesses we have selected to take part are a strong representation of the high levels of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit within the African tech space, and look forward to showcasing them to potential partners and investors at the event.”

 RideSafe is a product of Lina Medical Services Limited. It provides first aid services for public motorbike transport riders in the event of an accident.Out of the 10 startups pitching, three are leveraging the blockchain technology. These include:

• DéMars (Mauritius): a next generation mobile phone payments network for small micro payments built using the latest blockchain technology.
• Leaf (Rwanda): provides financial services to the stateless and excluded by creating a virtual bank with blockchain technology.
• RideSafe (Kenya): an emergency response service that utilises a micro-insurance financing model running on a decentralised blockchain application.
