Recently, the Crypto Assets community experienced a large-scale account banning event, which did not occur on Weibo, but on Musk's so-called "free speech" X platform.
The accounts that were banned this time include multiple entities related to Crypto Assets, including the official account of gmgn and its founding team, the official account of eliza and its founders, as well as many well-known opinion leaders in the Crypto Assets industry.
Looking back at the history of account bans on the X platform, although there have been many cases of individual accounts being suspended (such as Trump or well-known figures in the crypto circle like CSW), collective bans of this scale are indeed rare. After the Capitol Hill incident in 2021, the platform banned tens of thousands of accounts of Trump supporters; after Musk took over the platform at the end of 2022, there was also a large-scale cleanup of fake accounts, impersonation accounts, and automated bot accounts, but these actions were usually closely related to Musk's personal stance or political orientation.
Regarding the reasons for this ban, some believe it may be related to a politically charged meme image that implies a potential reconciliation between Trump and Musk, as both have made friendly statements recently. However, this explanation does not hold water, as it is not only the banned accounts that posted this content, and some banned accounts have never shared the related image, while other accounts that posted similar content have remained unharmed.
Another analysis indicates that this account banning incident seems to be mainly centered around the GMGN project, possibly because GMGN has been conducting large-scale data collection activities on the X platform.
