TSL Robotaxi service is in trial operation in Texas, taking a key step towards the commercialization of autonomous driving.
On June 23, according to Reuters, the public trial operation of Tesla's Robotaxi began yesterday in the South Congress Avenue area of Austin, Texas, USA. Initially, 10 Model Y vehicles are deployed, with the driver's seat remaining vacant but equipped with remote safety operators in the background. Although the safety operators do not have traditional driving control devices, they can intervene in the vehicle as necessary through emergency stop buttons and other devices. Additionally, the vehicles are equipped with biosensors that can monitor passengers' sudden health issues in real-time and automatically alert authorities. This trial operation is limited to invited users only and the service area is strictly restricted, with a fixed one-way price of $4.2. The Robotaxi in testing uses a pure vision solution, relying solely on an 8-camera system. Musk stated on X, "The cost of the pure vision solution is less than one-third of that of competitors. This is the result of a decade of hard work; the AI chip and software team is entirely built by Tesla." It is reported that the autonomous driving business accounts for over 60% of Tesla's trillion-dollar market capitalization.
