Official examples include generating seeds or minting Legits. Amounts consumed do not return to the wallet upon completion of that operation; which model applies is determined by the requirements of the specific feature, rather than chosen arbitrarily by the user.

Within Upland, SPARKLET is used for operations that require resource input, including constructing buildings and structures, manufacturing vehicles, decor, and user-generated content at factories, and generating seeds at nurseries.
