Yes. XYM's mainnet native asset ID is 0x6BED913FA20223F8, and symbol.xym is a human-readable alias pointing to that native asset; on mainnet, the two should be regarded as the same XYM. The alias itself also has a separate ID (0xE74B99BA41F4AFEE on mainnet), but its role is to reference native XYM rather than create a second asset. When checking deposit or integration information, also confirm the network in use to avoid mixing mainnet identifiers with those of other networks.

Can the XYM supply be changed arbitrarily?

No. XYM's supply-mutable property is false, meaning its supply cannot be increased or decreased arbitrarily by its creator; it is also a transferable asset and can be moved between any accounts. These two properties answer different questions: non-modifiability limits the authority to adjust supply, while transferability describes the ability to move it between accounts. They do not mean that every address input will result in a correct delivery; recipients' addresses and the network must still be verified when transferring.

When is an XYM transfer considered finally confirmed?

A transaction being included in a block does not mean it has reached the highest level of finality. Symbol's finality mechanism marks blocks that are irreversible; official documentation states that, under normal network conditions, blocks reach finality in about 5 minutes on average. If the recipient waits for finality, confirmation time varies with network conditions, but a finalized transaction will not be rolled back. Processing earlier based only on a fixed number of blocks may provide a faster experience, but it retains the possibility of a rollback before finality; the integration guidance in the documentation is to wait for about 20 blocks, usually around 10 minutes.

Why might a message be required when depositing to a platform?

In services that use centralized wallet collection, a transaction message can carry user identification information so the service can attribute an incoming transaction to the corresponding account. If the message is missing or incorrect, the funds may have reached the central address but cannot be automatically identified, requiring manual handling. This is a service provider's collection design; not all on-chain XYM transfers require a message. Whether one is required and what it should contain must follow the requirements on the receiving platform's deposit page for that transaction; do not reuse messages from other platforms or other assets on your own.
