What is SEI used for in the network?

When users submit transactions or call applications, they need to use SEI to pay network-specified fees. Fees allocate limited network resources for execution and state occupancy: when a transaction enters processing, executes, and changes on-chain state, the fee rules determine the cost the submitter must pay. The actual cost depends on the resources consumed by the transaction and the fee rules effective at that time; it cannot be inferred from the transfer amount alone.

How should SEI staking be understood?

SEI staking is part of the delegated proof-of-stake mechanism. Validators run nodes and participate in the consensus and execution of blocks and transactions; token holders can delegate SEI to validators, causing those tokens to count toward the validator's total staking weight. Total staking weight consists of the validator's own stake plus external delegations and affects its weight in participating in network work. Delegation generally does not mean giving a validator your private key or ownership of your tokens, but delegated SEI cannot be freely traded like unstaked balances during the bonding period.

What do validators do in the Sei network?

Validators run full nodes and participate in consensus, voting on blocks or related consensus information. Their voting power is jointly determined by their own stake and SEI delegated to them, rather than being one fixed vote per validator. After completing protocol-required work, validators may receive fees and rewards under network rules; their delegators participate in the distribution according to their delegation share, while validators may retain a portion first at their configured commission. As a result, both a validator's operational performance and commission affect a delegator's actual outcome.

What is SEI's total supply?

Official documentation records a total SEI supply of 10 billion tokens. Total supply is a protocol-defined measure of the overall quantity; it is not the same as the tradable circulating amount at a given time, nor can it alone determine an individual's share of holdings, future market supply and demand, or price. Determining tradable supply at a given time also requires separately checking locks, staking, and other on-chain states.

What are the basic risks of delegating SEI to a validator?

One core risk of delegating SEI is slashing. If a validator is offline for a prolonged period, misses consensus, or commits security violations such as double-signing, the protocol may slash that validator's stake, and stake delegated to that validator may also be affected according to the rules; the violating validator may also be temporarily removed from consensus. Delegators should not assess risk solely by historical yield, but should also consider the validator's operational stability, commission, and whether it is in normal status.

How long does SEI unstaking take?

Unstaking starts a 21-day unbonding period, which applies to both validators' self-stake and delegated stake. During this period, the relevant SEI cannot be transferred and no longer earns staking rewards; only after it ends does it return to the wallet balance available for ordinary transactions. If the purpose is only to change validators, the protocol's redelegation mechanism can switch to another validator without going through the unbonding wait, but redelegation also has its own time limits and rules.

Can SEI be used in the EVM environment?

Yes. Sei provides an EVM environment, where SEI can be used as native value attached to EVM transactions and can interact with staking functions through mechanisms such as in-chain precompiles. Here, “usable in the EVM environment” does not mean that SEI has become another separate ERC-20 asset; before operating, users should still confirm that their wallet is connected to the Sei network, the address format used by the application, and the fee balance required for the transaction.

What does Sei Giga mean for the existing Sei network?

Sei Giga is a series of in-place upgrades to the existing Sei network, rather than a newly built replacement chain. Official documentation stated in August 2026 that the first phase supported by the Ares execution component and Eidos storage migration had gone live on mainnet; however, Autobahn multi-proposer consensus, the complete subsequent storage and state-commitment solution, and Sedna remain later milestones or work progressing under operator control. Therefore, throughput or ordering-finality test data from internal development networks, roadmap targets, and the final confirmation currently obtainable by users for each transaction should not be conflated.
