Why Did Optimism (OP) Rise in the Last 24 Hours?

During the report window, OP had no dedicated catalyst and consolidated amid low volatility and trading activity. On 2026-10-26, the bid-to-ask depth ratio across the top five order-book levels was 0.17, with total sell orders about 5.9 times the buy orders. This indicated pronounced selling pressure that could limit rebounds; the concentration of the largest sell order added to overhead pressure. Technical signals were broadly bearish but mixed: the 4-hour ADX was 42.48, indicating a stronger trend on that timeframe, while ADX was low on the 15-minute and daily charts. RSI was neutral on the other timeframes, and MACD showed no crossover signal on any timeframe. The Aerodrome and Velodrome merger into Aero, covering OP Mainnet, could support ecosystem liquidity, but no immediate price response was evident. Weakness across the Layer 2 sector provides context but does not by itself establish a direct cause of OP’s movement.

About Optimism (OP)

Optimization is a low-cost, lightning bolt Ethereum secondary blockchain. The optimization ecosystem is an overview of applications and integrations in the optimization ecosystem. Optimization addresses the actual needs of developers and users. The optimization foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of optimization collective. OP is its native governance token, which is mainly used for governance protocols.

Use Cases and Features

OP is the governance token of the Optimism Collective and is used for token-weighted voting in the Token House. Holders may delegate voting rights to their own address or to eligible third-party representatives; representatives can participate in matters such as governance funding, protocol, and governance-upgrade proposals. The Token House and the one-person-one-vote Citizens' House together form a bicameral governance structure.

Supply and Issuance Mechanism

OP had an initial genesis total supply of 4,294,967,296 tokens. The initial allocation included 25% for the ecosystem fund, 20% for retroactive public goods funding, 19% for user airdrops, 19% for core contributors, and 17% for investors; tokens allocated to core contributors and investors are subject to lock-up periods. Total supply may grow at an inflation rate ultimately approved by governance.
