DEP (DEAPcoin) is a crypto asset issued by Digital Entertainment Asset (DEA). Since DEP Protocol chain technology began operating at 18:00 JST on July 14, 2026, it has operated as that protocol’s native token. DEP Protocol is a Proof of Human Activity (PoHA) Layer 1 built on Avalanche. Its aim is not to confirm who a person is, but to generate verifiable proof that a digital activity was completed by a real person. This change expanded DEP beyond its earlier role as an ERC-20 utility token for the PlayMining platform to uses involving chain gas, proof staking, and network economics. It did not automatically invalidate DEP on older chains, however; whether it is migrated and the network on which the asset resides still affect which functions can be used.

DEP Protocol produces a human-verification score that contains no personally identifiable information. It is intended to prove that a real person was behind a particular activity, rather than identify or track that person. Device and behavioral signals are processed on the device and then immediately discarded or hashed; what persists on-chain is the proof result, not raw behavioral data or personal identity information. Once an authorized issuing entity signs the result, third parties such as advertisers, partners, or auditors can independently verify the integrity of the on-chain record and the signature, without merely trusting the issuer’s allow-or-deny decision. The protocol layer provides a verifiable score; continuity checks, score accumulation, and business decisions for a particular context are handled by applications built on top of it. DEP is the sole gas asset of the DEP Protocol L1: verification calls, attestations, and on-chain identity queries are all priced and settled in DEP. Using these on-chain functions therefore creates a network cost paid in DEP, rather than in another gas token. DEP is also used as economic backing for proof publishers. Attesters that publish human-verification scores must stake DEP; if a misattestation occurs, the stake may be slashed. The purpose of this stake is to ensure that the party publishing proof has funds at risk, not to mean that holding DEP automatically earns a fixed return.

Chain technology began operating at 18:00 JST on July 14, 2026, and DEP began operating as DEP Protocol’s native token at that time; this is separate from reward distribution. The official information separately states that the reward and yield distribution program for network participants starts at the end of November 2026. Consequently, mainnet operation itself does not mean that a particular holder has received a distribution, nor that rewards started in July. Eligibility, settlement timing, and applicable requirements depend on the protocol’s specific participation arrangements. The website explicitly states that the source of network rewards is related to actual demand for use of human-verification data and does not guarantee a minimum distribution level.

The DEP Protocol website lists the current supply as 29.9 billion DEP and marks it as “all circulating.” Its supply policy is not to make new inflationary issuance: rewards come from a pre-accumulated pool rather than from newly minting tokens to distribute rewards, so rewards themselves should not dilute total supply. This is not the same measurement wording as the historical PlayMining whitepaper’s “maximum ERC-20 DEP issuance of 30 billion.” The two figures should not be added together or substituted for one another as a single current supply number. Migration of the old asset to DEPchain uses a 1:1, one-way burn-and-mint process: once the corresponding amount on the old side is burned, the same amount is minted on the new side. This mechanism describes migration between forms, not additional inflationary issuance.

The officially described network rewards are not fixed interest promised solely based on staked principal. Their source is actual revenue generated by human-verification services. After enterprises pay fiat currency or stablecoins for verification services, the protocol uses that revenue to buy DEP on the market; this step links demand for the service to DEP’s subsequent distribution/exit mechanism. The route listed on the website is as follows: of DEP bought on the market, 50% is burned or exited and 50% enters the distribution pool; the pool is then allocated 20% to Core and 80% to Genesis. Actual demand for data use affects the source of revenue, and the official information does not guarantee a minimum distribution. Thus, this structure explains how revenue enters the token economy; it is not a promise of any fixed yield or return.

Migration is not necessarily required. According to the official information, old ERC-20 DEP can be migrated at a 1:1 ratio, indefinitely, to the new DEPchain on Avalanche. The migration uses one-way burn-and-mint: the migrated amount on the old side is burned, and an equivalent amount of new-side DEP is minted. Migration is not mandatory. Even without migration, ERC-20 DEP on Ethereum and DEP on BNB Smart Chain (BSC) remain supported, and existing exchange handling is unaffected. Before taking action, first determine which network version you hold: old-chain tokens and native DEP on DEPchain are asset forms on different networks, and whether either can be used for a protocol function depends on the network that function requires.

No. DEP Protocol’s official documentation explicitly says that the network will not be fully decentralized from day one. It is currently a consortium chain operated by multiple entities and is planned to become public gradually in stages. Therefore, “the chain has begun operating” should not be interpreted to mean that anyone can become a validator without conditions or that governance is already fully open. The website also describes validators as permissioned, optional participants with an anti-Sybil mechanism. For users, this means distinguishing among three levels: whether the chain technology is operating; who currently participates in validation and under what admission rules; and whether it will become more open in the future. The latter two cannot be inferred solely from the mainnet launch date.

DEP was previously the ERC-20 utility token of the PlayMining platform. It could serve as a common reward across games and be used to buy NFTs on the PlayMining NFT marketplace, purchase in-game items, and unlock some functions. These were uses in the historical platform economy, not the same as DEP Protocol chain gas or proof staking. After a platform update in January 2023, NFTs could be bought with fiat currency. Fiat could only be used to buy NFTs, or to pay in-game in order to obtain NFTs; other in-game purchases remained, in substance, limited to DEP. The change lowered the fiat-payment barrier for an initial NFT purchase, but did not convert all in-game payments that had required DEP into fiat payments.
