Celestia (TIA) Price

TIA is Celestia’s native token. Celestia provides data availability services for chains such as rollups; when developers submit data to the network as blobs, they pay fees denominated in TIA. TIA is also used for Celestia’s proof-of-stake security and governance, and rollups may choose it as a gas token and unit of account. TIA is displayed in units of TIA, while on-chain staking and related operations without a specified unit are generally measured in utia: 1 TIA equals 1,000,000 utia. The unit difference affects how values are read in wallet or trading interfaces, but does not change the asset itself.

Celestia is a data availability layer, and TIA is its native asset. Rollups can publish data related to their transactions or state to Celestia and have the network handle data availability; how a rollup executes transactions and processes application logic is handled by the execution layer it chooses. Accordingly, TIA is primarily used in this relationship to pay the cost of publishing data to Celestia. Developers may also choose TIA directly as their rollup’s gas token and currency; this is an optional design choice, not a rule that every rollup using Celestia must adopt.

Publishing blobspace to Celestia requires TIA fees. Rollup developers submit data through PayForBlobs transactions; after the transaction is processed by the network, the fee is denominated in TIA. This fee pays for Celestia’s data availability service, rather than necessarily being the fee paid for every application transaction within a rollup. If a rollup separately chooses TIA as its gas token, users may also pay gas in TIA within that rollup’s execution environment. The two uses can coexist, but the first is a fee for publishing data to Celestia, while the second depends on that rollup’s own token design.

Yes, but the choice is made by the rollup developer. Celestia allows developers to use TIA as the gas token and currency when launching a rollup, while also paying data availability fees in TIA; this means they do not have to issue another token immediately when the network launches. If the developer does not make this choice, the rollup can still use other gas or denomination arrangements. Therefore, “using Celestia” and “necessarily paying all gas for that rollup in TIA” are not the same thing.

TIA helps secure Celestia’s own consensus through proof of stake. Holders can delegate TIA to validators; validators participate in network security and block production, and delegators receive their share of that validator’s staking rewards, while the validator charges a commission from those rewards. Staking is not the same as using TIA to pay blobspace fees. The former puts tokens to work for network security and reward distribution, while the latter pays for a service when data is submitted. Both use TIA, but they correspond to different parts of the network.

TIA holders can submit or vote on governance proposals concerning certain network parameters; the official documentation explicitly states that eligibility is not limited to stakers. Stakers can also vote on spending from the community pool. Since genesis, the community pool has received 2% of all block rewards and can fund ecosystem projects. Governance can therefore affect both variable network parameters and the direction of this funding; specific proposals, voting periods, and outcomes follow the on-chain governance process.

TIA had a total genesis supply of 1 billion tokens, but transfer restrictions do not lift for all categories at the same time. The public allocation was fully unlocked at launch; research and ecosystem categories had 25% unlocked at launch, with the remaining 75% unlocking continuously from year 1 through year 4; core contributors and early backers also follow their respective established unlock schedules. The supply rules later underwent two important changes: the v4 Lotus upgrade in July 2025 reduced annual inflation from about 7.2% to about 5.0%, after which it declines by 6.7% each year until reaching 1.5%; the v6 upgrade in November 2025 reduced it again to about 2.5% and retained the same declining path. Unlocks change the schedule at which existing allocations become transferable, whereas inflation is the protocol’s subsequent issuance path, so the two should be understood separately.
