Those who thought the Fed would have to ease as soon as the job market cooled got proven wrong again. Nonfarm payrolls added just 29k, but CPI is at 3.7%, PPI at 6.3%, and oil is back above 100—the economy is weakening, inflation is returning, and rate cuts are not so easy.
