Starknet’s SN Stack Will Allow Developers to Build Custom Chains
Starknet, a zero-knowledge (ZK) layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, has announced the launch of a new software called Starknet (SN) Stack, allowing developers to build custom chains using Starknet’s zero-knowledge technology.
Zero-knowledge technology remains a popular method to scale cryptocurrencies while ensuring quantum-resistant security
Starknet Launches SN Stack
Starknet announced the launch in a post on X. According to the announcement, the new software suite is available in three presets: StarkWare Sequencer, which resembles the public Starknet stack, Madera, a fully customizable open-source configuration and Dojo, a mode optimized for gaming. The post stated,
“At StarkWare, we’ve seen teams across the globe reach out asking to use technology underlying Starknet STARK-based ZK-rollups to build their own chains. Build your very own Starknet, now available for everyone. After years of battle-testing our technology, the SN stack is now ready for public use, enabling anyone to easily create their custom chain using the most performant and cost-efficient ZK tech stack on the market.”
Leo Sizaret, Business Development Manager at StarkWare, added,
“We believe zero knowledge technologies are the future of blockchain. It gives you exceptional security and scalability while also being Quantum resistant and cost-efficient.”
Projects built using the SN Stack can leverage Starknet’s underlying technology based on zero-knowledge proofs. An Ethereum Layer-2 solution, Starknet has $233 million in total value locked (TVL) and is the sixth-largest Ethereum Layer-2 network
The Risk Of Quantum Attacks
The release of the SN Stack software suite comes at a time when quantum computing poses a significant risk to modern encryption standards used by cryptocurrencies and blockchain networks. However, zero-knowledge technology allows users to verify information without revealing the contents of the data. ZK technology exists in several implementations, including ZK-stark, the technology powering Starknet. In November, XinXin Fan, the head of cryptography at IoTeX, received a best-paper award for co-authoring “Enabling a Smooth Migration Towards Post-Quantum Security for Ethereum.”
In the paper, Fan and his fellow researchers proposed hash-based, zero-knowledge proofs attached to every transaction to secure the Ethereum network from quantum attacks. According to Fan, hash functions are a cost-effective way of shielding sensitive economic data from quantum attacks. The research paper was published before Google launched Willow, a quantum computing processor capable of exponentially reducing errors.
Google claims Willow can solve mathematical problems that would take a binary computer 10 septillion years in less than five minutes. However, despite the exponential leap in processing power, physicists and computer scientists believe the quantum threat is being blown out of proportion
