Ken Sim, who has been serving as the mayor of Vancouver since 2022, announced that the city of Vancouver, Canada, plans to add BTC to its balance sheet as part of its efforts to diversify investments. During the Vancouver City Council meeting held on November 26, Mayor Sim submitted a motion notice, which is planned to be proposed on December 11, titled ‘Preserving the City’s Purchasing Power Through Financial Resource Diversification: Becoming a BTC-Friendly City’. As of November 27, it appears that the motion has not yet been publicly posted on the city government’s website, and the Mayor’s Office of Vancouver has declined to comment. It is currently unclear whether the motion by the mayor of Vancouver is a response to the consideration of legislation by local and federal governments in the United States to establish BTC reserves. After the 2024 election, legislators in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the United States Senate have proposed plans to have the government hold BTC as a reserve asset.
