According to Jinse Finance, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the 16th, expressing that regarding the conflict between Iran and Israel, "any actions that could lead to further escalation should be restrained, and all relevant parties are requested to exercise maximum restraint." Both sides agreed to continue close dialogue for regional peace and stability. Zarif asserted that Israel launched a preemptive attack to prevent an agreement between Iran and the United States on nuclear negotiations. Kono requested Iran to provide assistance to protect local Japanese residents, to which Zarif responded that "we will fully cooperate."
