The leading decentralized exchange platform of the Sui ecosystem, Cetus, was shaken by a major cyber attack.

Approximately $224 million worth of assets were seized by attackers. However, according to the official statement from Sui developers, $160 million of it was frozen and will be returned to Cetus liquidity providers (LP).

The funds stolen in the Cetus attack are currently distributed across four different addresses on the Sui and Ethereum networks. The distribution is as follows:

  • SUI: 92.24 million dollars
  • Sui ecosystem tokens: 70.25 million dollars
  • ETH: 61.74 million dollars

Sui officials and the core developer team of the ecosystem shared details about the incident during a X (Twitter) Space event they organized. According to the statements:

  • Attackers stole approximately $220 million in funds by exploiting a vulnerability in the Cetus Protocol.
  • A portion of this amount, totaling 160 million dollars, has been frozen and the refund process will begin shortly.
  • The Cetus team and Sui developers are working together to recover the remaining 60 million dollars.
  • The Sui network was not technically affected by the attack and maintained its security.
  • Cetus Protocol closed the gap, resumed trading, and brought the platform back online.
  • Sui officials also argued that this incident was due not to the Sui network but to a security vulnerability solely on Cetus.
