Argentina's President Javier Milei closed the unit established to investigate the international cryptocurrency fraud scandal involving his name, the LIBRA scandal.

According to the decree numbered 332/2025 published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday, President Javier Milei has dissolved the unit established to investigate his possible criminal involvement. The decree claims that the structure created by the executive branch has fulfilled all the duties it defined and therefore has no function left. It was announced that the "Investigation Task Unit" established within the Ministry of Justice has completed its duties under (UTI) and has been dissolved. The decree was signed by President Milei and Minister of Justice Mariano Cúneo Libarona.

According to the decree; Among the agencies that provide information to UTI are the Anti-Corruption Office (OA), the Central Bank, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), the National Securities Commission (CNV), the Revenue Administration ARCA (eski AFIP), the Military Housing, the Department of Migration, the Legal and Technical Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Public Information Access Agency, (AAIP), (IGJ) of the General Supervision of Justice, the Sub-Secretariat of Political Affairs and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

However, no public statement has been made regarding the outcome of the information provided by these institutions. This has raised questions about whether Milei's responsibility is truly being investigated.

On February 14, 2025, Javier Milei sparked great interest by introducing the cryptocurrency LIBRA directly through a link on his X account. Other figures from the La Libertad Avanza party, especially Martín Menem, shared this post from their own accounts as well.

In just two hours, the value of LIBRA peaked, but then it only garnered millions in profits by withdrawing a few wallet investments. Meanwhile, over 40,000 accounts lost all their investments.

On Saturday, February 15, Milei deleted the post in question, claiming that he had nothing to do with the LIBRA project. He claimed that he did not have a good grasp of the details of the project and decided not to continue with the promotion after learning about it. However, it was soon revealed that Milei had previously held meetings with the names behind the project, such as Julian Peh, Mauricio Novelli, and Hayden Davis, and were photographed together.
