Caught in a "false advertising" storm, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra faces cancellations, Lei Jun laments: it's tough!

Recently, Xiaomi Auto has fallen into a whirlpool of public opinion, with many car owners demanding refunds.

According to Yicai Global, several SU7 Ultra prospective owners believe that the high-priced carbon fiber dual air duct front hood they opted for has false advertising or that the official expression is misleading.

According to reports, some car owners have stated that the carbon fiber hood worth 42,000 yuan was promoted with claims of racing-grade carbon fiber, dual-channel aerodynamic design, ability to assist with heat dissipation, increase downforce, reduce weight, and improve overall vehicle performance... It sounded like something you couldn't resist buying, but soon after getting the car, they were splashed with a bucket of cold water.

On February 26 this year, Xiaomi Automobile officially mentioned in response to a question from a netizen that the carbon fiber dual air duct front hood completely replicates the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype car, adopting the same aerodynamic design, featuring two through air ducts that can efficiently guide airflow at the front. The prototype car also showcased real images of the air ducts at the press conference. Lei Jun also emphasized in the live broadcast: "We cannot just focus on the appearance, so we need to improve everything internally as well."

On March 2, Lei Jun posted on Weibo that "the carbon fiber front hatch has not only changed the exterior parts, but also the internal structure, and the dual air ducts directly guide the wheel hub to support wheel heat dissipation", although the expression was revised after 6 hours, the internal structure was still changed.

It is worth noting that this selling point has attracted a large number of consumers to pay extra fees and wait for about two months for delivery.

However, a blogger conducted an experiment using a blow dryer aimed at the perforated cover of the drill, only to find that the tissue paper showed no reaction; furthermore, car owners who disassembled it personally discovered that the so-called "dual air duct efficient guiding" carbon fiber openings could neither effectively direct air to the braking system nor generate downforce.

Later, Xiaomi also responded that "there are certain guiding and auxiliary cooling functions," but also admitted that it did not meet expectations.

Xiaomi apologized for the lack of clarity in the previous information and also launched a solution: For undelivered orders, we will provide a limited-time modification service, allowing a switch back to the aluminum front cover; for users who have picked up their cars and have locked their orders for the carbon fiber dual air duct front cover (before May 10th, 23:59:59) within this limited-time modification period, we will gift 20,000 points as a gesture of goodwill.

However, this point system does not convince car owners, as betting 2000 yuan for 42,000 is just too profitable.

According to media reports, some netizens have established a group for returning cars, and even some car owners have hired lawyers to protect their rights. Additionally, some netizens have attached a video joint statement from several Xiaomi SU7 Ultra owners, in which dozens of car owners share screenshots of their orders in a three-minute video, clearly demanding that Xiaomi refund their cars.

Car owners stated that whether it is false advertising by Xiaomi Auto or a miscommunication, the company should take responsibility and, in this regard, multiple car owners have jointly requested a refund.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was officially launched on February 27 this year, priced at 529,900 yuan. According to official information, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra aims to become the "fastest" four-door production car in the world, equipped with Xiaomi's super three-motor system, standard track version cooling system, braking system, and Nürburgring-tuned chassis system, allowing the standard version to go directly onto the track. Currently, the order volume for the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has exceeded 10,000 units, completing the annual target ahead of schedule.

On May 10, Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, publicly responded for the first time to recent conditions through his personal Weibo, admitting that "the past month has been the most difficult period since starting Xiaomi," and revealed that he had canceled meetings, paused business trips, and social media interactions due to feeling down.
