US-Mexico negotiations reach consensus, temporary halt to tariffs
U.S. President Trump announced on Monday (local time) that he will temporarily suspend the 25% tariffs on Mexican goods for one month. The decision was made after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to immediately dispatch 10,000 soldiers to the northern border to prevent drug smuggling.
The new tariff measures have just taken effect and all three countries, the United States, Mexico, and Canada, are affected.
Just two days ago, the Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, and a 10% tariff on imports from China, which has attracted widespread attention. These tariff policies were originally a means for the US government to pressure border security issues, but are now temporarily suspended due to an agreement with the Mexican government.
Mexican President: Reached multiple agreements with the United States
Mexican President Xuenbaum posted on social media, saying that her conversation with Trump was "based on respect for the relationship and sovereignty of both sides," and that they have successfully reached multiple agreements. She particularly emphasized that the United States has committed to taking action to prevent highly lethal weapons from flowing into Mexico in response to the increasingly serious crime and drug problems.
