FINTECH AFRICA | Flutterwave’s Send App Launches Commercial Operations in Malawi

Pan African fintech, Flutterwave, has announced that its flagship remittance product, Send App, has launched commercially in Malawi.

According to Flutterwave, Send App lets users make instant money transfers to recipients in various countries around the world, including Europe, United States, and the United Kingdom. This includes transfer options to:

• Local bank accounts
• Mobile money wallets
• Barter accounts, as well as
• Cash pick-up locations


In Africa, users can use the product to send money to and from:

• Cameroon
• Senegal
• Cote D’Ivoire
• Ghana
• Kenya
• Nigeria
• South Africa
• Ethiopia, and now
• Malawi

The app makes it more convenient for Malawi residents and diasporan communities across the U.K, U.S, and Europe to send money to any of the banks in the country through Send App.

The move comes one year after Flutterwave received an International Money Transfer Operators (IMTO) license from the Reserve Bank of Malawi allowing the payments company to handle remittances from Malawians and other Africans sending money back home.

Flutterwave, which also recently secured a Payment Systems Operator (PSO) license from the Bank of Uganda is on an expansion drive around the continent The move in Uganda followed acquisitions of payment licenses in Ghana and Mozambique.
