He pointed out that latency is limited by physical constraints such as the speed of light, node geographic distribution, censorship resistance, and economic incentives. Ethereum should serve as a "global heartbeat" rather than a low-latency gaming server. Vitalik believes that future applications requiring faster responses will rely on L2 and off-chain components, and in the AI era, it may even give rise to city-level or highly localized L2 solutions.
