Pump.fun brings back live streaming features with 5% of users.
Alon Cohen, co-founder of the memecoin platform Pump.fun based on Solana, is about to bring back the live streaming feature on this platform — five months after pausing this feature due to some incidents related to harmful content.
Posted on X on April 4, Cohen stated that the feature has returned with "industry-standard censorship systems and transparent guidelines." He mentioned that this feature is only being rolled out to 5% of users.
The Pump.fun website describes the purpose of the new live streaming censorship policy as "building a social environment on pump.fun to preserve creativity and freedom of speech, while encouraging meaningful interactions among users, without any illegal, harmful, and negative interactions."
Violating the censorship policy may result in the termination of live streams and the Pump.fun account of the content creator.
This policy prohibits certain types of content, including violence, animal cruelty, pornography, and content that poses a danger to minors. However, this policy also creates ambiguity by stating that "pump.fun does not intend to provide a general definition of what content is appropriate or inappropriate."
The platform further states that they have the right to "self-determine the suitability of content as necessary and adjust that content accordingly."
Pump.fun removed the live streaming feature last November after the feature became flooded with extreme content as memecoin creators resorted to increasingly shocking tactics to promote their tokens.
Some users have been accused of threatening to use violence or harm themselves if the token does not reach the price target.
The platform states that their unprecedented growth has put pressure on the censors and they will indefinitely suspend the live streaming function to ensure user safety "until the censorship infrastructure is ready to handle higher levels of activity."
