The world's first 5G-A open-pit mine with 100 unmanned electric mining trucks has officially been put into operation in Yimin, setting a new benchmark for smart mining.
Recently, the world's first cluster of 100 unmanned electric mining trucks, "Huaneng Ruichi," was officially put into operation at the Yimin open-pit mine in Inner Mongolia. This marks the world's first large-scale collaboration of "vehicle-cloud-network" in open-pit mining production under 5G-A network, bringing safety production to a new height with technology and setting a new benchmark for smart mines.
In order to actively respond to China's goal of promoting the transformation and upgrading of the coal industry to high-end, intelligent and green, China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Huaneng") has joined hands with Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "XCMG"), Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Huawei"), State Grid Intelligent Internet of Vehicles Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "State Grid") and other innovative consortiums to jointly build the world's first zero-carbon, The unmanned and intelligent open-pit mine transportation system leads the high-quality development of the industry.
Li Shuxue, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Huaneng Mengdong Company, stated in his speech that Huaneng Mengdong Company actively implements the new national energy security strategy, promotes energy transformation in the mining transportation sector, and fully realizes the replacement of oil with electricity, striving to create safe, intelligent, and green mines.
Innovation drives change, and Huaneng Ruichi's unmanned electric mining trucks have reached a globally leading level in the field of unmanned electric mining trucks. This product has a loading capacity of 90 tons, with a single vehicle's comprehensive transportation efficiency reaching 120% of manual operations, capable of continuous operation in extreme cold environments as low as -40°C. To fully leverage the advantages of a hundred vehicle cluster collaboration, Huawei Cloud's dedicated vehicle solution updates operating points in real-time through crowdsourced maps, optimizing driving routes, effectively reducing waiting times for operations, and improving operational efficiency.
At the same time, as the first unmanned mining truck project in China to eliminate the driver's cabin, Huaneng Ruichi prioritizes personnel safety, isolating personnel from equipment and harsh environments, significantly reducing safety risks. Under extreme conditions such as severe cold, rain, snow, and dust, it is necessary to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment while also improving production efficiency, which places very high demands on data processing and system collaboration capabilities.
Zhang Ping'an, Executive Director of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Cloud Computing BU, stated that Huawei provides artificial intelligence algorithms for open-pit mining operations, empowering autonomous vehicles with precise perception and efficient cloud collaboration, accelerating the coal mining industry’s transition from "human control" to "intelligent control," and using digital intelligence technology to safeguard the high-quality development of the coal mining industry. This is not only a beacon of the integration of China's 5G, cloud, AI, new energy, and other technological innovations but also an innovative attempt for AI to delve into industries to solve problems and tackle challenges.
To achieve smooth vehicle-cloud collaboration, the Yimin mining area has deployed a 5G-A network to provide precise network coverage for the autonomous driving routes. It is the world's first 5G-A open-pit mine, capable of supporting 500 Mbps high uplink and 20 milliseconds low latency, providing solid network support for high-definition video transmission and cloud scheduling of autonomous mining trucks. In the future, this technology will support more than 300 autonomous mining trucks to achieve uninterrupted production for 24 hours, further enhancing safety and efficient production in the mining area.
Looking to the future, Huawei will continue to work hand in hand with Huaneng, Xugong, State Grid, and more partners to promote the transformation and upgrading of mining transportation equipment, jointly creating a "safe, efficient, and green" smart mine, providing the "Yimin experience" for the digital and intelligent development of the global energy industry.
