The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that a 50% tariff will be imposed on India starting from the 27th.
On August 26, Jin10 reported that on August 25 local time, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a notice indicating the intention to impose a 50% tariff on Indian goods starting at midnight on August 27. According to Bloomberg, the notice states that the tariff will apply to "all Indian goods imported for consumption or stored for consumption." U.S. President Trump signed an executive order on August 6, imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian products exported to the U.S. under the justification of India "importing Russian oil directly or indirectly." The announcement indicated that, with some exceptions, the new tariff measures will be implemented 21 days after the executive order is published. According to the executive order signed by Trump on July 31, the U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods exported to the U.S. starting August 7. After the additional tariff announced on the 6th, Indian goods exported to the U.S. will be subject to a total tariff rate of 50%.
