The long-awaited innovation on Ripple (XRP) has started today! A statement has come from the company CTO.
Ripple announced the integration of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible sidechain (sidechain) into the XRP Ledger mainnet.
This sidechain aims to enhance the interoperability of the XRP ecosystem and enable developers to easily deploy Ethereum-based decentralized applications on the XRPL.
The new EVM sidechain supports EVM-compatible smart contracts while maintaining its connection to the XRP Ledger. According to Ripple's blog post, this structure offers developers access to the XRP ecosystem at a low cost and allows for the integration of the advantages of the XRPL payment infrastructure with Ethereum applications.
David Schwartz, Ripple CTO and co-founder of XRPL, stated, "The XRPL EVM Sidechain provides a flexible environment for developers to deploy EVM-based applications while maintaining its connection to the efficiency of XRPL. This solution expands the capabilities of the ecosystem without compromising the reliability of XRPL."
This sidechain operates as an independent blockchain that works in parallel and connection with the XRP Ledger. The connection is provided through the Axelar protocol. In transactions on the sidechain, XRP will be used as the native gas token.
According to Ripple, this development creates an attractive development environment for developers by providing access to the XRPL network, which has more than 6 million wallet owners. In the future, it is planned to be integrated with Wormhole, another interoperability protocol for sidechains.
