Shiba Inu DeFi Quest: Shibarium Moves To Self-Hosting Nodes

Abstract generation in progress

The hard-working developer team behind Shiba Inu’s Shibarium Layer-2 public blockchain is now encouraging users and independent developers to run their own nodes. On May 22, 2025, an official Shibarium update on X addressed the perks of implementing rate limits on public Remote Procedure Call (RPC) points.

Here’s Why Shibarium Needs PRC Rate Limits

This aligns perfectly with Shibarium’s aim for full-scale decentralization, as Shiba Inu holders, popularly referred to as SHIB Army members, will have complete control over their digital identity.

Besides, having an independent Shibarium node setup helps SHIB community members & decentralized applications (dApps) to stay safe from censorship, as well as minimize hack or restricted access risks. Certainly, relying on public endpoints is a good starting point, but the two-year old Shiba Inu (SHIB) blockchain aims for unmatched decentralization.

The more nodes a blockchain operates, the harder it is to hack it or take control of the majority of the tokens. Additionally, more Shibarium nodes operating on-chain & collecting transaction fees usually lead to solidified liquidity & rare staking opportunities for Web3 dwellers.

Dynamic liquid staking is one of the latest features welcomed to Shibarium L2, as K9 Finance DAO now takes up $2.13M out of $4.76M in total value locked (TVL) on the chain. Shibarium is yet to reclaim the yearly record of $11.13M achieved last December, but key metrics point to a fresh wave of activity just coming in.

According to ShibariumScan.io, the number of crypto wallets on Shibarium has reached a new record of 269.79K. This coincides with emerging activity on some Shibarium-based exchanges, as ChewySwap, Shibex & SHIB’s own ShibaSwap upped their TVL over 10% since last month, making decentralized exchanges (DEXs) the leading category on Shibarium L2.

On The Flipside

  • Shiba Inu’s developer team previously revealed to be working hard on a Layer-3 chain, a successor of Shibarium L2.
  • The new chain fetched $12M funding last year & is said to be compatible with Optimistic Ethereum roll-ups & ZK.

Why This Matters

Going forward with Shiba Inu’s founder Ryoshi’s vision to evolve into a decentralized ecosystem for a 1-billion strong community, SHIB is making huge progress with a L2 chain matching Ethereum’s functionality.
