SafeMoon CTO Thomas Smith pleads guilty to scamming 200 million USD

On February 21, there was information that SafeMoon's Chief Technology Officer, Thomas Smith, admitted to being involved in a $200 million cryptocurrency fraud. Smith pleaded guilty to two charges of securities fraud and wire fraud conspiracy in federal court in Brooklyn. These charges could result in maximum sentences of 25 years and 20 years, respectively.

Previously, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission accused SafeMoon's leaders of fraudulent behavior. Prosecutors allege that Braden John Karony, Kyle Nagy, and Thomas Smith conspired to commit securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. They are accused of deceiving investors in a DeFi cryptocurrency asset named "SafeMoon".
