[CFTC Acting Chair: 24/7 derivatives trading proposal limited to cryptocurrency assets] According to cryptocurrency journalist Eleanor Terrett, Caroline Pham, the acting chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), stated that all public comments received by the agency regarding the 24/7 derivatives and Perptual Futures trading proposals only involve cryptocurrency asset products and not traditional commodities. Pham pointed out in a speech this week that the CFTC believes that round-the-clock trading has potential benefits, including the ability to respond in real-time to emergencies on weekends, which is significant for risk managers. She cited the example of the 24/7 Bitcoin Futures recently launched by CEX Derivatives, stating that its weekend trading volume is now comparable to that of active weekdays. It is worth noting that the CFTC is also considering tokenized assets and stablecoins as collateral to address credit risk issues in the 24/7 market. Regarding Perptual Futures, the CFTC has confirmed that they are traded in the U.S. market, and Bitnomial launched Bitcoin Perpetual Futures in April. Some commentators hope that more encryption Perpetual Futures can operate under U.S. regulation, arguing that it leads to greater efficiency and lower costs; however, others warn that due to a lack of convergence and additional risks, these contracts may not be suitable for physical commodities.
