Bitcoin holders excitedly watched the cryptocurrency’s price reach an all-time high on May 21, exceeding the previous record set in January. Just how high will Bitcoin go in 2005? That is a question also being posed by traders at prediction markets like Kalshi, where users can trade Bitcoin price prediction contracts for a chance to win real money.

Kalshi currently offers six Bitcoin-related markets, including how high and low the price will go in 2025.

On the afternoon of May 21, Bitcoin surged above $109,500. The previous record was around $109,350, which occurred in January on the day of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Just as it did in January, Bitcoin’s price dropped following its peak, as some investors choose to sell to ensure profits. By mid-afternoon on May 21, the price was just above $107,000.

Bitcoin‘s price has fluctuated throughout 2025, rising and falling in response to economic news and other indicators. The spike in January was a reaction to the incoming Trump administration, which is seen as being much more friendly to the cryptocurrency industry.

The price of Bitcoin dropped below $80,000 in April in response to President Trump’s initial tariffs announcement, which created economic uncertainty. The price rebounded, but later that month, in the wake of news that the U.S. economy retracted 0.3% in the first quarter of 2025, Bitcoin’s price dropped below $93,000.

The May 21 price surge was seen, in part, as a reaction to the U.S. Senate’s advancement of legislation that would create a framework to regulate stablecoin, a form of cryptocurrency tied to the U.S. dollar.

How to trade on Bitcoin prices on prediction markets like Kalshi

At the Kalshi market How high will Bitcoin get this year?, traders can predict whether or not the price of Bitcoin will exceed various amounts at some point in 2025. This market has attracted nearly $3.5 million in trade volume since opening in November of 2024.

To trade in this market, users select a price range and then choose “Yes” or “No,” predicting whether or not Bitcoin’s price will reach that level by the end of the year. Based on trades so far, the market predicting “$125,000 or above” has the best odds of resolving to “Yes,” with the likelihood having a 74% chance. Conversely, buying $100 worth of “No” contracts at 28 cents a share would net the trader $237 if Bitcoin’s price doesn’t reach $125,000.

Other Bitcoin markets users can trade on at Kalshi include How low will Bitcoin get this year? and When will Bitcoin hit $150k? For more instant trades, Kalshi users can also bet on Bitcoin’s performance hourly, choosing from a minimum price or a price range. These hourly markets have cumulatively seen more $249 million in trades.

What to watch for to predict Bitcoin’s next price moves
Just like Bitcoin holders themselves, prediction market traders will be watching the latest economic and cryptocurrency news to try to determine how Bitcoin will perform in the coming weeks and months.

Trump’s embrace and promotion of cryptocurrency, its wider acceptance and a friendlier regulatory approach will likely continue to bolster Bitcoin’s price. Trump has signaled he supports creating a National Bitcoin Reserve (the subject of another prediction market at Kalshi), which would likely also provide a pricing boost.

Trade deals and tariff reductions could also positively impact the value of Bitcoin, as would slowing inflation. But factors like reinstated tariffs and another negative GDP report (Q2’s report is due in late July), which could signal an imminent recession, would likely increase Bitcoin pricing volatility.
