US Poll: 80% of the public supports swapping some gold reserves for Bitcoin
According to a recent survey by the nonprofit organization Nakamoto Project, 80% of Americans wish to convert a portion of the U.S. gold reserves into Bitcoin. The survey results, involving 3,345 respondents, show that the majority of respondents support converting 1% to 30% of the gold reserves into BTC.
Troy Cross, the co-founder of the organization, stated that despite some questioning the representativeness of the survey results, the survey still shows that respondents do not make extreme choices but instead demonstrate recognition of Bitcoin.
Research shows that the recommended investment proportion in Bitcoin decreases with age, which is consistent with the organization's previous finding of an inverse relationship between age and Bitcoin ownership.
Dennis Porter, co-founder of the Satoshi Action Fund, stated that he initially did not believe the result, but if given a choice, most people tend to invest diversely.
The survey was conducted online from February to mid-March, and participants were compensated. The survey and data collection company Qualtrics was asked to match the distribution as closely as possible to the U.S. Census in terms of age, gender, race, income, education level, and geographic location.
The survey also showed that 66% of respondents held a neutral to positive attitude toward Trump's Bitcoin reserve strategy. The United States has 8,133 tons of gold (valued at over $830 billion) and holds approximately 207,189 BTC (about $22 billion), which only accounts for 3% of the gold reserves, indicating a diversification of investment space.
White House advisor Bo Hines also suggested that the Treasury use profits from gold reserves to initiate a Bitcoin purchasing program. If the plan is implemented, it could acquire up to 1 million Bitcoins within the next five years.
Hines also cited Senator Cynthia Lummis's "2025 Bitcoin Act," pointing out that the U.S. could increase its holdings of Bitcoin in a "budget-neutral" manner through the revenue from gold certificates.
In summary, as Bitcoin gradually gains the market positioning of "digital gold," the discussion about the composition of national reserve assets is transitioning from a fringe issue to a mainstream political and economic topic.
At the same time, how will the United States balance its value storage strategy when its 830 billion dollars of gold reserves meet 22 billion dollars of Bitcoin holdings? Let's wait and see!
