AWS and Cyberport announce partnership and establishment of AWS Joint Innovation Center

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Cyberport announced today the establishment of a three-year partnership and the creation of the AWS Joint Innovation Center (JIC) to further promote the development of innovative technology in Hong Kong. This collaboration will cover four key areas, including accelerating startup development, commercializing artificial intelligence, innovating financial technology, and nurturing technology talent. Both parties will work together through a series of collaborative projects to support local startup development and strengthen Hong Kong's position as a global innovation hub.

The AWS Joint Innovation Center is a collaborative innovation program designed for enterprises or institutions. By integrating resources from both parties, it incubates promising startups and nurtures digital talent. At the same time, JIC is also committed to connecting its location with the AWS global startup network, creating more opportunities for startup development and expanding overseas business. Currently, AWS has established more than a dozen similar collaborative innovation programs worldwide, including in regions such as Singapore, India, and Taiwan. JIC will serve as a platform for local startups to connect with the AWS global startup network and will also assist startups from other countries and regions in developing their business in Hong Kong, facilitating two-way innovation and technology development.

Digital Policy Commissioner Huang Zhiguang stated: Looking ahead, the government will continue to promote the digital transformation and artificial intelligence development in Hong Kong. Active participation from the industry is key to innovative breakthroughs. I look forward to the new partnership between Cyberport and AWS, which will provide a collaborative platform for local startups and research institutions to accelerate the application of their research outcomes. Together, we will seize the tremendous potential of artificial intelligence innovation to build a smarter and better Hong Kong.

Cyberport Chairman Simon Chan said, "The collaboration between Cyberport and AWS, a member of the Cyberport Technology Network (CTN), marks an important step forward in promoting the development of Hong Kong's I&T ecosystem. As Hong Kong's digital technology hub and incubator, Cyberport is currently home to more than 2,200 companies, and by combining Cyberport's experience and expertise in nurturing the local I&T ecosystem with AWS's extensive global resources, we will provide stronger support to start-ups, especially in the areas of AI and fintech, to accelerate the commercialisation of their creative achievements and help them expand their global business opportunities." We look forward to continuing to work with industry partners to inject new impetus into Hong Kong's I&T development."

AWS Hong Kong and Taiwan General Manager Wang Dingkai stated: "Startups are the core driving force behind the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong, and AWS has always been committed to promoting the thriving development of Hong Kong's innovative technology ecosystem. Our collaboration with Cyberport is an important milestone in our commitment to deepen the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. By combining our unique advantages, we believe that the AWS Joint Innovation Center at Cyberport will provide a platform for Hong Kong startups to turn innovative ideas into reality, and we will provide the necessary support for startups to strengthen Hong Kong's position as an international innovation and technology hub in partnership with Cyberport."

The collaboration between AWS and Cyberport will focus on the following four key areas:

Accelerating Startup Development: AWS and Cyberport aim to support over a hundred startups in innovation and development each year, while further optimizing the incubation environment for startups in Hong Kong. In terms of technical support, AWS and Cyberport will provide potential startups with AWS cloud resources, technical support, and expert consulting, while AWS industry experts will be stationed at Cyberport to provide exclusive on-site technical assistance, helping startups develop from product conception to business scaling at various stages. In terms of resource matching, AWS will offer multi-faceted support, including venture capital matching, AWS Partner Network resources, and opportunities for joint innovation with large enterprises. To implement related plans, both parties launched the "AWS & Cyberport Co-nurturing Fintech Startups Programme" in February 2025, providing comprehensive support for more than a dozen fintech companies, and plan to continue launching similar programs in the future to further accelerate startup development.

Promoting the commercialization of artificial intelligence: AWS will launch a series of initiatives to support Cyberport in building a comprehensive artificial intelligence ecosystem. The specific goal is to jointly support at least 20 local institutions, research and development centers, and startups each year, assisting them in implementing AI and generative AI solutions. In terms of support, AWS will provide workshops, one-on-one expert consultations, and precise solution recommendations for startups focused on AI research and development at Cyberport, helping them smoothly transition from the application development stage to commercial operations. At the same time, AWS will also assist relevant companies in listing their products on the AWS Marketplace, thereby expanding their global business.

Powering fintech innovation: AWS will leverage its leading cloud technology and extensive experience in serving global financial services customers, and join hands with Cyberport to actively participate in fintech projects in the Hong Kong government and public sector to accelerate innovation in the financial industry. In terms of specific projects, taking the Generative AI Sandbox (I) launched by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Cyberport as an example, AWS will leverage its technological strengths to support the responsible innovation and development of generative AI applications in the banking industry, and assist participating institutions in testing various innovative use cases within a risk-controlled framework, with a particular focus on enhancing risk management, anti-fraud and customer experience. Looking ahead, AWS will continue to work with Cyberport to support fintech innovation and industry development, provide solutions and best practices for fintech scenarios, and promote the sustainable development of fintech in Hong Kong.

I&T Talent Cultivation: AWS and Cyberport will work together to nurture and expand Hong Kong's I&T talent pool. As part of its overall talent development strategy, Cyberport Academy will integrate AWS Educate resources to provide more than 2,200 Cyberport companies with AWS globally certified cloud-based education courses and training resources to meet the needs of talents of different skill levels. In terms of cooperation projects, AWS fully supports the "Cyberport. University Partnership Programme", which provides cloud computing training courses to about 50 start-up teams to help them obtain internationally recognised cloud certifications. AWS has helped more than 31 million learners from 200 countries and regions improve their cloud skills globally, and in Hong Kong, more than 100,000 people have been trained in cloud skills since 2014. Going forward, through our deep collaboration with Cyberport, AWS will continue to equip students and young entrepreneurs with the critical skills they need to succeed in the digital economy, laying a solid foundation for Hong Kong's continued innovation and development."
