The Camino Network Foundation has teamed up with Lufthansa Systems and Swiss International Air Lines to drive forward blockchain-based solutions aimed at transforming the travel industry. This collaboration was marked by a web3-focused hackathon held in Frankfurt, which saw experts from the travel and tech sectors come together to create practical, efficient, and sustainable solutions using blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The hackathon, which brought together teams from 13 different companies, was focused on exploring how the Camino Network blockchain could be used to distribute flight and travel products more efficiently. The 48-hour event produced a series of innovative solutions designed to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve sustainability within the travel industry. Topics such as carbon dioxide offsetting, new payment methods, and access to emerging sales markets were central to the discussions.

Pablo Castillo, CEO of Chain4Travel and the driving force behind the Camino Network, highlighted the breakthrough nature of the event. He emphasized that connections that once took months to establish can now be made in just a few days. The new solutions developed during the hackathon could lead to significant improvements in efficiency, with up to 98% cost savings demonstrated by Hotelplan, and as much as a 50% improvement in sustainability, according to CO₂ analysis by Carbify.

One of the standout projects was presented by the Unimoni team, which showcased a solution aimed at integrating 300,000 travel agencies from India into the Camino Network. Another significant development came from the SWISS and Digital Hangar team, which unveiled a web3 travel identity solution. This solution includes wallet integration and the ability to issue real-world assets like vouchers and digital services, marking a major leap in the digitalization of travel services.

Mickael Woelcke, project manager at SWISS, noted the impressive speed with which flight content from Lufthansa Group was integrated into the teams' platforms, highlighting the commercial potential of the technology. With faster and more efficient partner integration, along with drastically reduced distribution costs, the future of blockchain in travel looks promising.

Following the success of the hackathon, Lufthansa Group will evaluate which of the projects can move forward into pilot applications, signaling the next steps in the development of blockchain solutions for the travel industry.
