On January 8, Josh Swihart, CEO of ECC (Electric Coin Company), publicly announced that the ECC team has resigned collectively from its original organizational structure and plans to establish an independent new company to continue development. What’s the reason behind this? Bootstrap, the non-profit organization responsible for governing ECC and supporting Zcash, has “obviously and continuously diverged” from Zcash’s core mission.

The point of disagreement is clear. In recent weeks, the majority of Bootstrap’s board members—including Zaki Manian, Christina Garman, Alan Fairless, and ZCAM’s Michelle Lai—have become seriously misaligned with Zcash’s original intentions in their decision-making. Josh stated bluntly that the ECC team faced what amounts to “constructive dismissal”: modifying employment terms and working conditions unilaterally without directly firing employees, making it impossible for the team to continue working while maintaining professional integrity and technical completeness.

Under these circumstances, all ECC members made the decision to resign. However, it needs to be clarified that this is not a technical fork or protocol-level conflict. The Zcash protocol itself remains completely unaffected. The ECC team’s new move is fundamentally aimed at protecting years of work results and preventing them from being eroded by malicious governance.

Josh stated that ECC will establish a new company with the same team and mission to continue building “unstoppable privacy currency.” Simply put, technical development of privacy coins continues, only the organizational form has changed.
