In the federal government's massive layoff action last week, the Department of Efficiency led by Trump and Musk laid off more than 300 nuclear safety management personnel responsible for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), causing shock in Congress. The agency quickly revoked most of the layoff decisions the next day and urgently contacted the laid-off employees to return to work. The Department of Efficiency, led by Trump and Musk (DOGE), is attempting to reduce federal government spending at an unprecedented speed, laying off nearly 10,000 probationary employees within a few days last week, including over 300 nuclear safety management personnel responsible for supervising U.S. nuclear weapons at the NNSA. However, due to the high professional requirements for nuclear safety management, there were concerns about nuclear safety risks, leading the agency to reverse most of the layoff decisions the next day and currently trying to contact these essential nuclear safety management personnel, hoping they will return to their positions.
