Phoenix Net Technology News: On April 1, yesterday evening, in Wuhan, on multiple road segments, there was an incident in which a group of Luobo Kuai Pao autonomous driving vehicles collectively broke down and stalled. The official confirmed that it was caused by a system malfunction. This widespread shutdown not only led to severe congestion on the city’s main thoroughfares, but also triggered related traffic accidents.

According to a notice released by the police, starting from 20:57 on March 31, the alarm center received a concentrated stream of reports from the public stating that multiple Luobo Kuai Pao vehicles were stranded on the road and unable to move. The public security traffic management and the transportation departments immediately deployed forces to rush to the scene, and in coordination with the company’s staff began the process of evacuating and handling the stranded vehicles. A preliminary investigation found the cause to be a sudden system fault. At present, all passengers inside the vehicles involved have safely alighted from the vehicles; there were no injuries among personnel at the scene. The detailed causes of the accident are still under further investigation.

The on-site footage that circulated on social media, along with multiple drivers’ dashcam recordings, has reconstructed the events leading up to the incident. That evening, on the express lane from the Wuhan Second Ring Road near the Railway Station toward the KaiFa District Wanda area, at least three Luobo Kuai Pao vehicles suddenly stalled, and caused one of the vehicles to be rear-ended by a vehicle coming from behind. In addition, the large number of stalled vehicles directly caused several kilometers of congestion on Wuhan’s Third Ring Road. According to on-site traffic police officers’ disclosure to the media, this system malfunction affected a relatively wide area, with about 100 to 180 vehicles stranded on the road. Although passengers could open the doors by using the in-car buttons, getting out rashly at speed on the ring road posed a serious safety risk. In the end, large numbers of trapped passengers were only able to get to safety with the assistance of the traffic police.
