Google Meet users reported a large outage on September 8, with disruptions increasing sharply in the past hour. According to outage tracking site Downdetector, reports of issues with Google's video-conferencing service had reached around 10,000 by late morning.

Many customers reported being unable to join meetings or experiencing unexpected call dropouts.

Google has yet to publish an official statement on the cause, but the dramatic increase in outage reports indicates a widespread service disruption.

While the outage wasn’t limited to the crypto sector, several developers and traders flagged the incident as a blocker to scheduled meetings and coordination tasks.

"Was supposed to be on a Meet call to finalize a protocol deployment — cancelled now," said pseudonymous Ethereum developer 0xMilo on Discord channel for Ethereum devlopers. These things throw off entire launch timelines."

Another founder, known as DeFiShark, wrote: "Running a team across 5 time zones, and the one thing we all rely on breaks down? Not ideal. Lost a key VC call today."

Similar disruptions have historically been connected to problems with Google's cloud infrastructure, though investigations are usually continuing in the early hours of an occurrence.

Even while it is not directly related to crypto markets, significant outages of Google Cloud services (which power many exchanges and blockchain infrastructure providers) have traditionally resulted in brief interruptions in bitcoin activity.

For example, in 2022, a Google Cloud failure shut down Solana's block explorer and halted transactions throughout portions of the network.

A user on X named Mal | unBanked (@unbankedgroup) mocked the interruption, advising followers to "get up from your workstations and go touch the grass." He also suggested that people “buy some crypto while you are at it.”
