The Polkadot ecosystem is undergoing a significant transformation, as founder Gavin Wood recently announced three key reforms that will have a profound impact on DOT holders.
Firstly, Polkadot will introduce a 'zero-risk' staking mechanism. The new nomination system will eliminate penalties and locking requirements, making DOT staking simpler and safer. This change means that staking DOT will be similar to bank deposits, but the potential returns may be higher. However, Wood emphasized that staking yields will be kept at reasonable levels to ensure that they do not crowd out other value creation activities in the ecosystem.
Secondly, validators will face stricter identity verification. In the future, node operators may need to verify their identity through methods such as passport or video authentication. This initiative aims to enhance network security and reduce reliance on pure capital strength. Existing validators need to adjust in a timely manner to adapt to the new rules.
Third, Polkadot will tighten treasury spending. Wood himself and the foundation will be more actively involved in the proposal voting process, strictly controlling fund allocation. The focus will be on supporting strategic projects, such as the airdrop plan for the Proof of Personhood system. This may mean that obtaining funding support will become more difficult.
In addition, Wood publicly supported a hard cap proposal of 2.1 billion DOT, which plans to reduce token issuance by 13.14% every two years. This proposal is about to enter the final voting stage and may be finalized in version 1.8.1.
Polkadot also plans to launch innovative products such as native stablecoins and 'volatility-resistant DOT', which are expected to bring new development opportunities to the ecosystem.
In the face of these changes, Wood calls on the community to actively respond. For DOT holders, developers, and project parties, it is crucial to quickly adapt to the new rules and seize early opportunities. These reforms will not only reshape Polkadot's economic model but may also inject new vitality into the entire ecosystem.
