Trump allies call for an investigation into mortgage dealings involving Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Cook, suggesting he may have violated criminal law.
[Trump's allies call for investigation into Fed Governor Cook's mortgage transactions, suggesting potential criminal law violations] Bill Pulte, the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and a steadfast ally of Trump, urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Fed Governor Cook's two mortgage transactions. In a letter dated August 15 to Bondi and Justice Department official Ed Martin, Pulte claimed that Cook "forged bank documents and property records to obtain more favorable loan conditions, which may constitute mortgage fraud under criminal law." He stated that Cook purchased a property in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and secured a loan, promising to use it as his primary residence for at least a year, but two weeks later, he secured another mortgage in Georgia, also declaring it as his primary residence. Pulte also cited four criminal law provisions, suggesting Bondi investigate for potential charges. No charges have been filed yet, and it is unclear whether Bondi will initiate an investigation.
