BCH community divisions intensify: IFP controversy unresolved before May update
The Bitcoin Cash (BCH) community is preparing for the upcoming technical update, but a key issue remains unresolved. With just one month left until the update on May 15, the Infrastructure Funding Plan (IFP) code still exists in the software of a certain development team. This has raised concerns among community members, with many demanding clear explanations from the team on online forums.
In response to this situation, the development team recently launched a fundraising campaign aimed at raising approximately $3.3 million for the BCH protocol development (equivalent to 14,500 BCH). As of now, 43% of the fundraising goal has been reached, and the campaign will continue until the end of April. This means there are only two weeks left before the update in mid-May, and whether or not the IFP will be implemented will depend on the fundraising results.
However, this fundraising campaign has raised some concerns. Some users have questioned whether IFP would be seen as a last resort if the fundraising goal cannot be achieved by the end of the month. According to the business plan for the next year published by the development team, if the fundraising fails, it may encourage miners to implement IFP, including allocating a portion of the block rewards to the development team.
In response, a chief developer of a well-known lightweight wallet expressed dissatisfaction. He believes that although the development team has responded, it is unsatisfactory. From the response, it seems that the team views the IFP as a bargaining chip.
Looking back at the events of February this year, the development team proposed to allocate 12.5% of the BCH block rewards to the development team to support development work, which sparked widespread controversy. Subsequently, the team adjusted this percentage to 5% and plans to implement this plan in the new version to be released on May 15.
This series of events reflects the disagreements within the BCH community regarding technological updates and funding for development. As the update date approaches, community members and developers are closely following the developments, hoping for a solution that can balance the interests of all parties.
