Monad: A High-Performance L1 Blockchain Worth Looking Forward to in 2024 with 10,000+ Transactions per Second
Monad: The Highly Anticipated New Generation L1 Blockchain of 2024
Monad, as a Layer 1 (L1) Blockchain set to launch later this year, has already attracted significant attention even before its official launch. The goal of Monad is to become a highly scalable single large L1 Blockchain. Background of the Founding Team of Monad
The Monad project has been in development for about two years and was co-founded by Keone Hon, James Hunsaker, and Eunice Giarta. Among them, Keone and James are two technical co-founders who worked together for eight years at a high-frequency trading firm, where they were responsible for over $100 trillion in nominal trading volume annually, executing thousands of trades per second. This experience has given them a deep understanding of the importance of microsecond execution differences.
After entering the crypto space, Keone and James worked on the Solana DeFi and Pyth projects, respectively. In 2022, they realized that a series of fundamental optimizations could be implemented on the EVM, which are already standard practices in high-performance computer science but have not yet been applied to the EVM. Thus, they began building Monad, aiming to create a more powerful EVM to address many of the existing scalability bottleneck issues.
Technical Innovations of Monad
Monad can achieve such high transaction processing capability not only by relying on parallel execution engines but also by combining multiple technological innovations:
Parallel execution: Allows multiple transactions to be processed simultaneously, significantly improving efficiency.
MonadDb: A purpose-built state database that supports parallel read and write operations on disk, fully leveraging the potential of parallel execution.
Asynchronous Execution and Consensus: Separating the execution and consensus processes to fully utilize block time, significantly improving performance.
The combination of these technologies enables Monad to achieve a processing capacity of 10,000 transactions per second while maintaining full EVM compatibility.
Application Prospects on Monad
The high-performance characteristics of Monad provide new possibilities for various application scenarios:
On-chain order book DEX: Combining the advantages of decentralization with the deep liquidity of centralized exchanges.
Large-scale on-chain games: High-throughput games that support millions of users simultaneously.
