SEC commissioner Hester Peirce delivered a speech at a Blockchain conference, calling on the government to firmly uphold the public's financial privacy rights and support the use of technologies that protect privacy and self-custody of encryption assets. She pointed out that most concerns about financial privacy stem from motives to protect national security, but restricting privacy and de-intermediation technologies is not a legitimate path. She emphasized that the right to privacy in value transfer should be defended just like the privacy of communication.
