📍Guizhou Zunyi and Wujian Zhai
Wujiangzhai, located in the city of Zongyi in Guizhou Province, in Shanji Town, is an ancient village in northern Guizhou surrounded by mountains and water, about 50 kilometers from the site of the Zongyi Conference, and is nicknamed "a real version of paradise on earth." Wujiangzhai has a long history, having belonged to the ancient Shushu State during the Shang and Zhou periods, following the southwestern factions. In the mid-reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty, it was transformed into a rural system and associated with Zongyi County, and during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, it became part of Guizhou. It was formerly known as "Crossing the Cow" or "Flow of Communications," and Wujiangzhai represents the spirit that carries the culture of northern Guizhou, where humans and nature coexist with all beings. In 2016, Wujiangzhai was listed in the fourth batch of traditional village protection in China, and in 2022, it transformed into an international area for tourism, recreation, holidays, health care, and exhibitions, becoming "a new tourist attraction in Guizhou."
The culture of Wujang Zai has great depth, reflecting the concept of inclusivity and coexistence in the Bashu culture. The "idea of coexistence" combines nature, culture, and history, inheriting the customs of North Qian and reviving the tea and horse road and the fish market along the river, awakening nostalgic memories for visitors. The red culture is also its primary color, as it is located near the site of the Zuni Conference, carrying the spirit of revolution and symbolizing renewal. Wujang Zai is not only a tourist destination but also a miniature model of the culture in North Qian, showcasing the efforts of the people of Guizhou towards a beautiful life and a spirit of innovation.
Wujiang Zongyi Village
Wujiang Village, located in Shangji Town, Puzhou District, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, is a beautiful ancient village situated along the Wujiang River, approximately 50 kilometers from the Zunyi Conference site, often described as a "true paradise on earth." With a history dating back to the Shang and Zhou Dynasties as part of the ancient Shu Kingdom, it came under the jurisdiction of Zunyi during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and was incorporated into Guizhou during the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty. Originally known as "Toniu Pass" or "Tongliu Pass," Wujiang Village embodies the essence of northern Guizhou culture, emphasizing harmony between humanity and nature. In 2016, it was listed as a protected traditional village, and by 2022, it had transformed into an international tourist resort integrating tourism, entertainment, vacations, wellness, and conferences, earning it the title "New Tourist Landmark in Guizhou."
The village of Wujian is located on the banks of the Wujian River, characterized by gravel paths, wooden houses with black tiles, and elevated buildings, creating a vibrant tableau that reflects the architecture of northern Guizhou. The restoration processes adhere to the philosophy of "repairing as it is old," preserving its rural charm while integrating the cultures of eight ethnic groups, including Miao, Gelao, Bouyei, and Tujia. Visitors can engage in intangible cultural heritage experiences such as traditional paper making, fabric dyeing, pottery making, and lantern crafting, or enjoy performances like Nuo opera, single bamboo stick paddling, and bamboo pole dances. The "Feast of the Eight Directions" offers dishes and ethnic stories. Night tours include boat rides under lantern light, water dance performances, and drone shows, blending tradition with modernity.
