According to the Kyiv Independent, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's request for Poland to provide additional Soviet-era jet planes on August 27, stating that Ukraine could only receive the additional Polish-provided MiG-29 fighter planes after Poland obtains modern F-35 fighters as replacements. Błaszczak stated that with the increasing provocations by Russia in Polish airspace and its merch region, Poland will focus on protecting its own borders. He said, 'I know Ukraine needs a large amount of weapons, but our Ukrainian partners must also understand that Poland must maintain its (defensive) capabilities.' According to Polish media Wiadomosci, Poland has already ordered modern F-35 fighter jets from the United States, with an expected delivery date in 2026.
