L'Iran affirme que le destroyer américain a tenté de profiter des conditions de cessez-le-feu pour s'infiltrer dans le détroit d'Ormuz, en se faisant passer pour un navire commercial omanais, dans le but d'influencer les négociations entre les États-Unis et l'Iran. Finalement, il a été intercepté par la marine iranienne et n'a pas réussi à entrer.

Mars Finance reports that on April 12, local time, Iran stated that the US Navy’s “Frank E. Petersen” and “Michael Murphy” destroyers attempted to “penetrate” the Strait of Hormuz the day before.
The US ships used the cover of a ceasefire to both create false propaganda of “successful passage” and to influence ongoing US-Iran negotiations.
Iran claims that these two warships tried to impersonate Omani-flagged merchant ships sailing along the southern coast of Oman, choosing a very close-to-shore and shallow-draft dangerous route, hoping to enter the Persian Gulf through “concealed” movements and Iran’s military negligence during the ceasefire.
Iranian Navy ultimately intercepted them at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.
