People’s Finance News, 4 April — A legal document released on 3 April by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia shows that on the same day the court’s chief judge, James Boseberg, upheld the decision to dismiss the federal prosecutors’ request to issue two subpoenas to the Federal Reserve. Boseberg said that the defense materials provided by the prosecution in haste neither offered new evidence nor pointed to any substantive errors, so the court refused to reconsider the dismissal decision.

In January, the federal prosecutors sent two grand jury subpoenas to the Federal Reserve, seeking records of the most recent renovations to the Fed building and relevant records of Federal Reserve Chair Powell during congressional hearings. The Federal Reserve later filed a motion with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, requesting that the two subpoenas be quashed. Powell said that the federal government’s threat of criminal charges against him was an attempt to undermine the Federal Reserve’s “independence” in setting interest rates. Boseberg made the dismissal decision on 11 March, saying that the two subpoenas issued by the prosecution to the Federal Reserve were simply intended to put pressure on Powell and had no proper grounds.
