People News Finance April 1st, according to a research report from China CITIC Securities, in 2025 the total electricity consumption of the entire society in China is expected to grow year-on-year by 5%, which is 1.8 ppts lower than in 2024. The GDP electricity elasticity coefficient has, for the first time since 2020, fallen back to 1.0; structural factors are the main reasons for the slowdown in electricity demand. The business sentiment of traditional high-energy-consuming industries continues to decline; the growth rate of emerging high-end manufacturing has shown a phase of slowdown, but overall electricity consumption in the secondary industry still has strong resilience. Driven by the expansion of new energy vehicle charging and swapping services and the build-out of computing power infrastructure, the electricity demand growth in the tertiary industry remains basically stable. It is expected that the GDP electricity elasticity coefficient may rise again, with forecasts that the growth rates of total electricity consumption of the entire society in 2026—2028 will be 5.4%, 5.2%, and 5.0% respectively.
