Coinworld News: Vitalik Buterin published an article stating that the idea that zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) make running nodes irrelevant is inherently misleading (he was long misled by this idea himself). Users need more than just verifying the correctness of header information; they also need to be able to read the blockchain in a privacy-preserving and censorship-resistant manner. Remote procedure calls (RPC) cannot provide this capability, nor can even Helios and Colibri. Ethereum's future lies in becoming a network where data and transaction throughput far exceed what a single node needs to process, but to truly achieve permissionlessness and eliminate bottlenecks, more than just zero-knowledge proofs are needed.
