Will the day come when Takuya Kimura talks about "stablecoin" and "tokenization" in a commercial? 【Column】 | CoinDesk JAPAN
Takuya Kimura will appear in a commercial for Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. Many of you may already know this from SNS and news sites.
On May 27, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group held a press conference to announce a new TV commercial featuring new characters such as Takuya Kimura and Satomi Ishihara. Takuya Kimura appeared as the representative of the new characters.
According to the announcement, Emt will “provide a seamless financial experience by connecting financial services centered on a bank account app.” Specifically, on June 2, MUFG will launch a full renewal of the Bank of Mitsubishi UFJ app, a new point-up program, a complete renewal of the MUFG Card app, and a new release of the point payment app.
Furthermore, during the fiscal year 2026, we plan to release a completely new “Digital Bank”, a group-wide “Emut Point”, and a “Loyalty Program” that offers more benefits the more you use it. The Digital Bank will be built on Google Cloud.
There were many questions from the venue regarding the differentiation points from similar services that are already ahead.
! The yen-linked stablecoin, which Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking is reportedly preparing to issue, was not included in the announcement on the day and was not mentioned at all.
Since the announcement did not include the name of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank, I thought the possibility of an announcement regarding stablecoins was almost nonexistent, but since it was said that “a new retail strategy will be announced,” I had some hope of “perhaps”.
Of course, without the approval of the Financial Services Agency, it would be impossible to make an announcement in a situation where the “Japan-origin” stablecoin has not received the go-ahead. If the go-ahead had been given, it might have been included in today’s announcement.
Regarding the current status of stablecoins, I am inquiring separately. I will inform you as soon as I receive any information.
I can’t wait for the day when Takuya Kimura, Satomi Ishihara, and others mention words like “stablecoin,” “tokenization,” and “on-chain” in TV commercials.
