The commander of U.S. forces in South Korea, Xavier Brungson, denied on the 21st that the "THAAD" missile defense system deployed in South Korea had been moved to the Middle East.
Brungson said during a hearing before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on the same day, in response to Democratic Senator Gary Peters' questions about the "THAAD" system: "We have not taken the 'THAAD' system away, so 'THAAD' is still on the (Korean) peninsula."
Brungson stated that before the U.S. launched the "Midnight Hammer" strike against Iran in June last year, there had been a "radar repositioning" move, "some of which have not yet been returned, but the 'THAAD' system itself remains on the peninsula."
He also mentioned that the reports claiming U.S. forces moved the "THAAD" system out of South Korea were due to "dynamic adjustments" of equipment, with the equipment being transported in batches to U.S. Osan Air Base in South Korea.
