(MENAFN) Authorities in New Mexico initiated a search on Monday at the former ranch of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This operation may represent the first comprehensive examination of claims involving the abuse of women and girls at the property.

The probe at the estate, referred to as Zorro Ranch, forms part of a renewed initiative by state officials to scrutinize the late financier’s activities in New Mexico, which they assert were never completely explored.

New Mexico Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury emphasized that the state’s justice department is leaving “no stone unturned” during the search.

She also posted on the US social media platform X: “Epstein survivors have waited for far too long for justice and New Mexico is leading the way in the pursuit of truth and accountability.”

“This search is part of the criminal investigation announced by the New Mexico Department of Justice on February 19th into allegations of illegal activity at Epstein’s ranch prior to Epstein’s 2019 death,” the New Mexico Justice Department stated on its website.

Details regarding which sections of the ranch were inspected or the expected duration of the operation have not been disclosed.

Following Jeffrey Epstein’s death in a New York jail in 2019—where he awaited sex trafficking charges after a 2008 conviction for soliciting minors—new claims emerged concerning his conduct at the ranch.
