Golden Finance report, April 27th, according to the Financial Times of the UK, the UK’s Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport expressed concerns about Prime Minister Starmer’s highly praised “EU restart” plan, believing it could “stifle” innovation in sectors ranging from artificial intelligence to lab-grown meat.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the plan to strengthen relations with the EU is expected to keep the UK aligned with most EU regulations.
However, some UK officials worry this could harm the UK’s tech industry and its alliance with the US.
An individual familiar with discussions within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology said that the biggest concern so far is that the UK will be forced to adopt the EU’s stance on AI regulation.
The person pointed out that the European Commission “has demanded alignment from the very beginning.”
The individual said: “The market believes that the way the UK allows businesses to develop attracts investment, and this approach gives companies operational freedom.
Moreover, the US has taken notice of this freedom, which is why they have invested and established bases here.
We need exemptions, but they are hard to obtain in such negotiations.” (East New Agency)
