Phoenix Network Technology, Beijing time April 8, according to Bloomberg, sources said that Apple’s first foldable phone is proceeding as planned to be launched later this year during the company’s regular iPhone release cycle. This refutes earlier media reports that production of the phone has encountered major obstacles.

Sources said Apple will release this foldable model in September together with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Apple’s iPhones typically go on sale within a week after being released.

A report by Nikkei Asia on Tuesday sparked market concerns that the launch of this phone might be delayed. The outlet said Apple faces challenges in the engineering testing phase of the phone, which could lead to delays in production and shipment plans. Subsequently, Apple’s stock price fell by as much as 5.1%.

Sources said that although the complexity of the new display panels and materials may result in limited initial supply within the first few weeks after launch, Apple currently still plans to have this foldable phone launched either roughly at the same time as, or shortly after, the new non-foldable models.

After Bloomberg published this latest report, Apple’s stock price recovered some losses. By Tuesday’s New York close, the stock was down about 2.1%, at $253.50.

However, with six months still remaining until the new phone is released and production capacity not yet ramping up, the exact release date has not been finalized. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment. (Author/ Xiao Yu)
